I use different designs of scrapbook paper to create flowers for the bulletin boards around my elementary art classroom.

🌸 Why Paper Flowers Are Perfect for Classroom Decor

Paper flowers are a favorite among teachers because they:

  • Add bright, eye-catching color
  • Create dimension (not just flat displays)
  • Work for any season or theme
  • Are inexpensive and easy to make

Even simple paper flowers can completely transform a classroom and help tie your color scheme together.

🎨 Where to Use Paper Flowers in Your Classroom

Paper flowers are extremely versatile and can be used in a variety of ways:

  • Bulletin board borders or focal points
  • Classroom door decorations
  • Hallway displays
  • Backdrops for student photos
  • Art room decor or themed displays

Many teachers use paper flowers to create large, eye-catching bulletin boards or seasonal displays that stand out in the hallway.

✂️ Simple Ways to Create Paper Flowers

There are many ways to make paper flowers depending on the look you want:

⭐ Layered Paper Flowers

Cut multiple petal shapes and layer them to create a full flower.

⭐ Tissue Paper Flowers

Fold and fluff layers of tissue paper to create soft, full blooms.

⭐ Rolled Paper Flowers

Roll strips of paper into spiral shapes for a different textured look.

💡 Teacher Tips

  • Stick to a color scheme for a cohesive look
  • Mix sizes (small, medium, large) for visual interest
  • Use them year-round by changing colors seasonally
  • Prep a set once and reuse them each year

Paper flowers are great because they can be as simple or detailed as you want, depending on your time and classroom needs.

Paper Bead Mobile Classroom Decoration

Looking for a simple way to add movement and color to your classroom? A paper bead mobile is a unique and eye-catching decoration that works beautifully in an art room or creative space.

This type of hanging decor adds visual interest and brings a sense of motion to your classroom, making the environment feel more dynamic and engaging.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A couple summers ago I made a hanging paper beaded mobile to use for a decoration in the new elementary art room I was relocating to within my school district.
I cut triangular strips of  left over scrap book paper to make beads.
Then I strung them adding pink and white pom pom balls and solid colored buttons of various sizes as spacers. I hung numerous strands on two different sized hoops that I wrapped string around to create a balanced mobile.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

🎨 Why Paper Bead Mobiles Work for Classroom Decor

Most classroom decorations stay in one place—but hanging mobiles introduce movement, which instantly makes a space feel more alive.

Paper bead mobiles:

  • Add color and visual interest
  • Create gentle movement as air flows through the room
  • Help fill vertical space (ceilings, corners, windows)
  • Can be reused year after year

Hanging mobiles have long been used as decorative art pieces because their moving elements create a constantly changing visual experience.

🌈 Where to Use a Paper Bead Mobile

These look great in a variety of classroom spaces:

  • Hanging from the ceiling in your art room
  • Near windows where they can gently move with airflow
  • In corners that need a pop of color
  • As part of a bulletin board or display area
  • Above tables or centers for added visual interest

They are especially effective when placed where they can catch light or movement.

✂️ How They’re Made (Simple Overview)

Paper bead mobiles are created by stringing together rolled paper beads and attaching them to a hanging structure.

Basic idea:

  • Roll strips of paper into beads
  • Secure them with glue
  • String them onto thread or wire
  • Attach multiple strands to a top piece (stick, hoop, or structure)

This layered hanging design allows each strand to move independently, creating a soft, flowing effect.

💡 Teacher Tips

  • Choose a cohesive color scheme for a more polished look
  • Vary the length of strands for visual balance
  • Use lightweight materials so the mobile moves easily
  • Hang in an area where it won’t be bumped or tangled

Paper mobiles are often most effective when they are simple and balanced rather than overly full.

Crepe Paper Flower Ball Decorations

Looking for a way to add color and dimension to your classroom decor? These crepe paper flower spheres are a beautiful and eye-catching way to elevate your space without a lot of effort.

They’re perfect for art rooms, hallways, or bulletin board displays when you want something a little more unique than flat decorations.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As decorations to hang in my elementary art classroom,
I made six hanging crepe paper flower kissing balls.
I followed the directions provided on awonderfulthought.com
and made one for each color of the rainbow (minus indigo).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

🌸 Why Crepe Paper Flower Spheres Work So Well

Most classroom decor is flat—but adding 3D elements instantly makes your space stand out.

These flower spheres:

  • Add texture and dimension
  • Bring soft, bright color into your room
  • Work for multiple seasons (spring, end-of-year, celebrations)
  • Can be reused year after year

Decorative flower balls like these are often used in home and event design because they create a full, eye-catching look with simple materials.

🎨 Where to Use Them in Your Classroom

These decorations are super versatile and can be used in a variety of ways:

  • Hanging from the ceiling
  • Displayed in corners of the room
  • Added to bulletin boards
  • Used on classroom doors
  • Grouped together for a larger display

They’re especially effective when used in clusters at different heights.

✂️ How They’re Made (Simple Overview)

These flower spheres are created by attaching multiple small crepe paper flowers to a round base.

Basic idea:

  1. Form small crepe paper flowers
  2. Attach them to a foam or paper ball
  3. Continue layering until the entire sphere is covered

This layered approach creates a full, textured look that feels much more detailed than it actually is.

Decorative paper flower balls are similar in concept to traditional spherical paper decorations, where repeated elements form a complete shape.

💡 Teacher Tips

  • Choose 2–3 colors for a cohesive look
  • Make a few large spheres instead of many small ones
  • Hang at different heights for visual interest
  • Store them in a box and reuse each year

These are great when you want something that looks impressive but doesn’t require constant updating.
